Sat 2/13 Jenne Sluder at Straightaway Cafe

Sat February 13
Jenne Sluder
at Straightaway Cafe
6pm
Jenne Sluder is a heart-centric artiste born of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She delivers a distinctly beautiful and powerful vocal quality that is emotional, awake and unwavering. Her original work is unabashedly personal and existential and generally narrative.

She gives equal weight to wrapping her chords around stylistically similar and influential predecessors such as Safka, Young and Cohen as well as peers Oberst, Brock, and Hersh.

She draws from a background of diverse musical experience spanning from fronting a college punk rock band to teaching composition of blues and hip-hop in a rural West Virginia middle school; performing sacred songs at spiritual retreats and organizing raucous junkyard bands at youth camps; swapping songs in a small tribal village in Kenya, Africa and speaking/performing alongside Peter Yarrow as part of a conscious aging initiative.

Jenne lives and gardens in her native home of Appalachia, NC and recently acquired a Masters degree in Ecopsychology from Naropa University.
