Duke Freeman
at Straightaway Cafe
6pm

Try to define Duke Freeman and The Random. Just try. The sound brings a mix of psychedelic rock, punk, and blues; the sound bridges a mix of old folk, reggae, and Deep South blues; or maybe the sound engulfs a mix of classic rock, grunge, and soul. They tend to dominate one particular style live, and seeing them live is a game of chance that depends on the psyche of the band at very second they start playing, but whatever it is it’s sure to be delivered with an undeniably raw energy.

When Duke was ready, it was a quick, hard trip into the scene. He wasn’t a musician just messing around who decided to one day maybe try to get more out of his music. He wanted more in the present. He wanted it now and his drive for music was strong from the start. Comparatively, the sound is reminiscent of faster Black Keys material with old blues covers done punk style such as “Murderer’s Home Blues” and “Long Tall Shorty.” “Thanatos Blues” combines Black Sabbath with Led Zepplin.
